Deep Tissue
Should never be painful and can be very nurturing. A massage should never consist entirely of deep work. This would be overwhelming for the client and be very exhausting for both client and therapist. The primary goal is to focus more on altering muscle and structural restrictions, and less emphasis on relaxation. Deep tissue can be simply stated as the "understanding of layers of the body, and the ability to work with tissue in these layers to relax, lengthen, and release holding patterns in the most effective and energy efficient way possible." The alleviation of pain, the increase of flexibility, and the potential for better posture are all goals that can be achieved with deep tissue.
Trigger Point Therapy
A trigger point is a spot located in a tight section of a muscle that is extremely sensitive when pressure is applied. The spot will generate a referred pain and tenderness. Everyday activities can cause muscles to be held for long periods in uncomfortable and awkward positions. Muscles were not designed to work that way. Corrective measures must be taken to eliminate the trigger points. Often care for these tense muscles will not end after the massage. Clients must learn to respect their muscles to achieve a lasting recovery. Through education and self awareness the client will have absolute success and gratification.
Neuromuscular Re-education
This modality will help restore the bodies postural balance by manipulating the soft tissue that supports, connects, and surrounds muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and organs of the body. After a complete session, the client will experience tension and pain relief, improved joint mobility and the bringing about of better posture and structural alignment. Neuromuscular will help identify soft tissue dysfunctions and assist in the removal of trigger point activity.
Sports Massage
Even though the goal is to help increase the performance potential of an athlete, sports massage is also ideal for clients who suffer from non-sports injuries or pain. The techniques used will alleviate the discomfort and aching for those who experience headaches, chronic stress, and car accidents. Sports massage will help improve blood and lymph circulation along with overall muscular relaxation.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
A lymphatic massage encourages lymph flow and assists in maintaining the integrity of the immune system. The massage will strengthen the client's body against various diseases, allergy symptoms, the common cold, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions. The lymphatic system is part of the body's immune system that eliminates harmful materials and waste from the body. This massage, when applied correctly, will assist and remove the accumulated waste and restore the lymphatic system to the normal function of cleansing the body unassisted.
